The guitar is one of the basic rhythm instruments in Irish and Celtic Music, but can also be used to carry the melody.

The uillean pipes, concertina, flute, harp, and button accordion are also perfect for playing Irish traditional music, and can enhance a tune with their own special tonal qualities.

The Irish Bouzouki
The Irish bouzouki is considered to be part of the mandolin family and is perfect for playing Irish traditional music.
The Hammered Dulcimer
The hammered dulcimer provides a wonderful harp-like sound.
Penny Whistle, Bodhran, Bones, and Mandolin
The bodhran can add dramatic rhythm, color, and emphasis to a tune. Bones and spoons are also used sometimes for rhythm and special effects. The mandolin usually carries the melody, but can also be used to play rhythm.
